So what does that mean, you ask? What's a "Snooth?"
Well, there are apparently several rather arcane definitions for the word. But the folks at Snooth are attempting to turn it into a household word, preferably a verb: "Let me snooth the wine list while you choose an appetizer." "Snoothing," according to this crowd, is the act of searching for, buying, reviewing --and of course, drinking -- great wine. All inspired by the tools available on Snooth.
Snooth bills itself as a web-based shopping experience that allows people to interact with other folks who are interested in wine, to peruse a comprehensive database of wine reviews and ratings, and to easily purchase wine through a robust network of online and local retailers. (You enter your location when you register for Snooth, so they can provide info for retailers in your area.) The site features a clean, friendly interface that's easy to navigate. Once you've entered ratings for at least five wines, they start delivering personalized recommendations to from their database of more than 1 million wines, including more than 400,000 wines in stock at various retailers.
It's the recommendation engine and the ease of finding retailers that impresses me the most about the site, as well as the fact that it's a great research tool when we're looking for wines to taste at Wine Giques Headquarters. Given the fact that they just announced a partnership with GlobalWineStocks.com that gives them connections to wineries and wine shops in more than 40 countries, we say that things are probably going to go snoothingly for them for a while. And that makes us happy.
Snooth. Check it out.
