Sorry, y'all, we've been a little absent, consuming lots of wine -- fodder for many blog posts! At some point you're going to hear about a fabulous event we held last weekend, but first I'm going to talk to you about how to watch wine on teevee.
"What?" you ask, "That sounds about as exciting as watching grass grow." Well, when we're talking about traditional teevee, it generally is. Wine shows on teevee usually feature all the thrills and chills of, oh, Antiques Roadshow. But that's because these guys have to fill a half-hour or an hour of programming time.
And that's where we come to the beauty of the internets, where you can make itty-bitty web shows that last five, ten or fifteen minutes, and explore a single subject to your heart's content. Sometimes you can even parlay that into having your own teevee agent (we're talking to you, Gary Vaynerchuk.)
At Wine Giques Headquarters, we like to watch these little itty bitty wine shows on the internets, and sometimes swill right along with the hosts. And one of our new favorites is WineTasteTV, which is actually a little bit more than a little itty bitty web show -- it's kind of an entire wine-based network, with shows about different varietals, wine pairings, travel, dining, even interviews with winemakers. They don't allow video embeds from their site, or I'd show you the interview with my favorite "wine bear," Ray Coursen from Elyse Winery. Instead, you're going to have to settle for an interview with Bill Harlan, who makes a little-known and easy-to-find Cabernet. (You know we're joking about that last part, yes?)
Another great thing about WineTasteTV is that they've got a direct link to Zachy's, where you can order wine online immediately after drooling over that video. Good luck with the Harlan, though. I doubt even Zachy's can line that up for you. But at least you can watch it on teevee.
