I once poured wine at a charity event on the hottest (Afiker hot, as Margaret would say) day of summer. We were outside - the sign was blazing, really HOT. Well, the dumbasses that attended were such status drinkers, that they chose to line up for a big, fat, tannic cabernet rather than partaking in the wine that I was pouring; a crisp, tropical, COLD, unoaked chardonnay. WTF?
So, yesterday, after a crazy, 5-day heat wave, we had dinner at the house of some of our close, red-wine-preferring friends. However, these friends have the good sense to also drink chilled white wines on occasion. Last night we had a bottle of the Cliff Lede SB. I chose it over a Napa Chard that I can't remember right now. The Cliff Lede was very Napa Valley in style: citrus notes, straw, good acidity - it was an enjoyable wine and was very good with the aged Gouda that we were eating. I must admit, I love an herbal, gooseberry -style Sauvignon Blanc though I would drink this wine again.
