You never know when yer gonna get hit with a puck. Shoot, the economy is hittin' middle class people like us pretty hard. But, there are some pretty affordable wines to be had. You might even be able to pay yer mortgage or health care premium after buying these puppies.
Randall Graham made Bonnie Doon wines famous and then sold the brand but any of the Big House Red, Whites or Roses make decent drinking wines and won't break the bank.
Likewise, the wines from Smoking Loon (Gallo, right?). Some are better than others, but for the money, the Syrah isn't half bad... for the working man.
As for wines that are not from California, uh, I'll have to get back to ya on that.

Question is: what to drink on election night? My vote is the "French 75" (I stand on the record as saying it is made with cognac or brandy, not gin, sparkling wine, lemon juice and I prefer a sugar cube to simple syrup, but what the hell, wing it if you want to). Anyway, the drink's application to Election night is multifaceted: if the election goes well, you can simply drink the sparkling wine and if it goes great you can drink all the sparkling wine and then have the cognac and if it goes terribly wrong then you drink the French 75 and dream of emigrating to France.

Great recommendation, Q. Relieved that we got to go with option "B." I'm still drinking bubbly, as a matter of fact!
Need a good drink for Bush's last day in office, methinks. Start working on one.
